Consumers are being warned to be on the lookout for counterfeit €100 bank notes.
Gardaí urged shoppers to be extra vigilant as a number of fake €100 bank notes have been in circulation since March.
The trend is to purchase a small item with one €100 note and receive approximately €90 in change from the retail outlet, according to Gardaí.
Members of the public are advised to check the security features of notes. This particular counterfeit is said not contain the physical security thread but a printed one instead.
Gardaí are anxious to speak to a man in connection with these incidents. He is described as short in height, of slim build, black hair, sallow skin and has been seen on a number of occasions wearing cream/white trousers and matching short jacket of the same colour.
Any person who comes across these counterfeit €100 notes, or has any information is asked to contact their local Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.
