Do the new suppliers service the whole State?Yes.

Do I have to be a Bord Gáis customer to switch over?No, but if you are already a customer, you will get an additional 2 per cent off your bill.

Do I need to tell the ESB I'm switching?No, the new providers will be only too pleased to do that for you.

Do I need a new meter or wiring?No, switching does not involve any work being carried out in your home. You still use the same meter and the same wiring and your meter will continue to be read by the ESB.

How much will I save?Airtricity says it will charge 10 per cent less than ESB Networks while Bord Gáis is promising reductions of up to 14 per cent on ESB prices.

Can I take advantage of cheaper nighttime rates with the new providers?Yes. Bord Gais has a range of day and night tariffs allowing people to store up cheaper nighttime electricity.

Will I still get the Electricity Allowance?Yes, but it won't be paid directly towards your bill. Instead the Department of Family and Social Affairs will issue monthly cheques or lodge money directly into your bank account.
