The threatened cancellation of two concerts by the rock band Oasis next month because of difficulties over planning permission has been described as an attack on youth culture by the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI). The concerts are planned for Cork's Pairc Ui Chaoimh on August 14th and 15th.

"Threats to open air concerts have now become an annual occurrence and represent a serious attack on youth culture and young people in Ireland," the NYCI president, Mr Simon Nugent, said.

Bus Eireann has announced, assuming that the concerts go ahead, it will operate special bus services between Dublin and Cork for the events.
