A WORKING group to prepare a safety code of practice for indoor concerts has been set up by the Minister of State for Sport, Mr Bernard Allen.
The move follows a call for such a code by the jury at an inquest last week into the death of a 16-year-old Cork girl at a concert in The Point in Dublin last May. Ms Bernadette O'Brien died from asphyxiation at the Smashing Pumpkins concert.
The working group will be made up of representatives from the Garda, Dublin Corporation and the Departments of Health, Education, Environment and Justice. It will invite submissions from interested parties arid an initial draft of the code is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Announcing the group yesterday, Mr Allen said some promoters might not be fully aware of their responsibilities for the safe running of concerts.
