The Medical Council has said its fitness to practise committee will make recommendations shortly on sanctioning a consultant urologist who was found guilty yesterday on nine counts of poor professional performance.
The council would then decide what sanction to impose on Thomas McDermott at a meeting in the coming months, a spokeswoman said.
The verdict was reached yesterday after a three-day hearing into the death of a woman after treatment for urinary problems in December 2008 in Mount Carmel Private Hospital in Dublin.
Mary Walsh (56), Carrigwood, Firhouse, Dublin, died of septic shock after being transferred to Tallaght hospital.
