In an attempt to halt damage to the Burren landscape, the Burren code was introduced yesterday at Newtown Castle, Ballyvaughan, Co Clare.

Produced as part of the Burren tourism and environment initiative, the document is proposed as a draft voluntary code of practice for visitors to the world-renowned landscape.

The author and archaeologist, Dr Peter Harbison, welcomed the code as a practical way of telling visitors to the Burren how they may assist in protecting the sensitive landscape they have come to appreciate.
