Customs officers and gardaí seized cocaine worth at least €87,500 from separate drug couriers at Dublin and Cork Airports this weekend.
A 39-year-old South African man was arrested at Dublin airport last night after arriving on a flight from Argentina. He was found to have ingested four pellets of cocaine, weighing around 0.25kg and with an estimated street value of €17,500.
On Saturday a 30-year-old Irish man was arrested at the airport after it was discovered he had ingested 100 pellets of the drug weighing approximately 1kg and with a street value of €70,000. The man had arrived on a flight from Brussels.
Both men are due to appear before Dublin District Court.
In Cork Airport last night customs officers stopped a 60-year-old South African man who had arrived on a flight from Brazil via Amsterdam. The man, who is now in Cork University Hospital, was also discovered to have ingested an undetermined amount of cocaine.
