A man suspected of suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is being treated inHospital in Portlaoise, Co Laois today.
The man, who is in his 40s and had just returned from East Asia, was admittedto the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise last nightand is being treated in an isolation unit after he showed signs of SARS.
His condition was said to be stable.
Yesterday, it emerged that another man who had returned from Hong Kong wasadmitted to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar with symptoms of the virus.
It was reported that he had stayed in the same hotel as another man who waslater confirmed as having the condition.
On Thursday, two people being treated in Dublin hospitals for suspected casesof the virus were given the all clear.
Fifteen people are believed to have died of the disease worldwide.
