Four premises in Dublin and one in Mullingar were shut down last month by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) for breaches of food safety legislation.

Closure orders were served on Jorag Stores, 298 North Circular Road, Phibsborough, Dublin 7; Crystal Food Store, 9 Moore Street, Dublin 1; Surya Indian Restaurant, Castleknock Inn, Old Navan Road, Dublin 15; Lahore Kebab, 36 Clanbrassil Street, Dublin 8; and Springfield Stores in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

Closure orders are served where it is deemed there is or is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health and can refer to the immediate closure of all or part of the food premises, or all or some of its activities.

FSAI chief executive Dr. John O'Brien urged food business operators to be extra vigilant in complying with legal requirements.

"Every food business in Ireland is legally obliged to have a food safety management system in place,” he said.

“To assist people to meet this legal requirement, the FSAI has produced a safe catering pack. The pack acts as a vital resource in assisting food businesses to design their own food safety management systems particular to their own food operation."
