Former US President Bill Clinton's name was removed today from a list of members of the US Supreme Court bar in a move related to the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
"Bill Clinton, of New York, New York, having requested to resign as a member of this court, it is ordered that his name be stricken from the roll of attorneys admitted to the practice of law before this court," the justices said in a brief order.
Mr Clinton's lawyer, Mr David Kendall, informed the court on Friday that Clinton wanted to resign rather than fight possible disbarment.
The Supreme Court suspended Clinton on Oct. 1 from practising before the court and gave him 40 days to show why he should not be disbarred.
On Jan. 19, the day before leaving office, Clinton admitted giving false, evasive statements about his relationship with the former White House intern Ms Lewinsky.
In a deal with the independent counsel, Clinton accepted a five-year suspension of his license to practice law in Arkansas and a $25,000 fine.
The Arkansas suspension triggered the high court case.
