Washington - White House officials moved into damage limitation mode again yesterday after reports that President and Mrs Clinton are planning to divorce. An Internet columnist Matt Drudge - who was first to reveal the Monica Lewinsky affair - reported that tensions between the Clintons escalated in Turkey last month. He says the National Enquirer, a supermarket tabloid, will quote a White House insider as saying: "It's so frosty at the White House, there are icicles hanging in the First Lady's office."

Mrs Clinton is furious, says the paper, that the President will not take a back seat to her New York Senate campaign. "There's no way I'm going to be your First Lady," Mr Clinton reportedly said during a row in Turkey. That was when Mrs Clinton allegedly told him that the marriage was over.
