Kim Clijsters won her first LTA Tour tournament of the year yesterday, upsetting second-seeded Lindsay Davenport in the final of the Bank of the WestClassic in Stanford, California.
The third-seeded Belgian won in three sets - 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 - and served notice that she cannot be overlooked for the US Open next month.
Clijsters avenged a quarter-final loss at Wimbledon and won for the first time in four finals this year.
"I hadn't won one yet, so it's really nice," said Clijsters. "After the second set, I was like, 'Oh, I don't want to lose another'. So I kept focusing".

"She is a better player than she was three weeks ago when I played her at Wimbledon," said Davenport. "She didn't play well at Wimbledon. She played well today".
