A bookies' clerk is suing Ladbroke's turf accountants for psychological damage allegedly due to the effects of numerous violent incidents in its Dublin branches.

Ms Joan Kelly, for Mr Ray Garland, told the Circuit Civil Court yesterday her client's claim was based on the company's failure to provide adequate security cover for staff while he worked there from 1991 to 1996.

She told Judge Michael White that Mr Garland, of Bargy Road, East Wall, Dublin, was seeking discovery of all documentation on security arrangements, attacks, raids and other violent incidents on Lad broke's offices.

Ms Rachel Murphy, for Ladbroke's, successfully opposed discovery of documentation for the full six years Mr Garland worked in branches at Aston Quay, North Strand, Abbey Street, East Wall, O'Connell Street and Duke Lane.
