Galway brushed aside Down’s challenge in the first Guinness All-Ireland hurling qualifier with an assured 7-15 0-13 victory at Casement Park this afternoon.
Galway dominated the opening half and led 5-08 to 0-04 at the break. Goals from Fergal Healy, David Tiernan (penalty) and Alan Kerins gave Galway a huge lead and although Down recovered at the beginning of the second-half, they had no answer for Galway's play.

Clare gave Dublin a lesson in hurling with an resounding 3-22 to 1-08 victory at Parnell Park this evening. Clare were always in control despite Dublin’s early goal. Goals from Niall Gilligan, Gearóid Consadine and Conor Early sealed their emphatic victory.
