The Denmark international, who still had one year left on his contract with the Barclaycard Premiership club, will join up with his new team-mates at a training camp in Austria.

Jensen will be seen as a replacement for Jorg Heinrich who has joined Cologne.

The fee paid by Dortmund is believed to be just less than the £750,000 City paid FC Copenhagen for Jensen.

Jensen's City options were limited with former Bayern Munich defender Michael Tarnat expected to begin the season as Kevin Keegan's first-choice left-back.
