DUBLIN city councillors last night agreed to draw up a more detailed job specification for the £70,000-a-year city manager, for submission to the Local Appointments Commission.
The council agreed on a motion by the former Lord Mayor, Mr John Gormley (Green Party), and Mr John Stafford (FF), which threatened to veto any appointment unless councillors were more involved in the selection.
Mr Gormley said the elected representatives would have to be satisfied with the new city manager should have "a vision of what this city can attain" as well as innovative solutions to its traffic, crime and waste problems. Mr Feely, who retires as city manager in May, said he would support it.
