A DOUBLE inquest was told yesterday that a mother and her toddler son perished apparently after a cigarette burning on a sofa set their corporation home ablaze in the Ballymun area of Dublin.
However, Dr Brian Farrell, the Dublin City Coroner, at the request of the family of the deceased adjourned the inquest to July 3rd to allow more "substantive" evidence from fire, ambulance and other witnesses involved in the case.
A mother of four, Mrs Margaret Morgan (30), and her son, Lee (2), died when their house at Shangan Green, caught fire in the early hours of January 19th last.
Mrs Morgan's family claimed that she and her son were found by firemen in the upstairs bedroom of the two storey house.
The inquest heard that Garda forensic experts had concluded that the fire broke out when a smouldering cigarette set a sofa ablaze in the sitting room.
