The child, named locally as Ray Cuddihy from Cromwellsfort in Wexford town, was killed on Friday evening as he ran from a school car-park into the path of a vehicle. He had gone to the school, at Barntown, with his mother to pick up an older child.

A US national was killed yesterday morning as she walked along a footpath in Howth, Dublin. The woman, who was in her 50s, will not be named until all family have been contacted.

It is understood the woman was walking at Carrickbrack Road in Howth when a car mounted the footpath and struck her. She died at the scene, and her body was taken to Blanchardstown Hospital.

At about 8.45 p.m. on Saturday Mr Mark Kelly (29), of Church Lane, Suncroft, Co Kildare, was killed in a two-car collision at Ballymany, Newbridge, Co Kildare. His body was taken to Naas General Hospital. He was the only occupant of the car.

All four occupants of the other car were taken to Naas General Hospital where they were held overnight. Their injuries are not said to be serious. Garda∅ are seeking witnesses to this accident.

The body of a 31-year-old man was found in a car embedded in the wall of the Slane Castle demense yesterday morning. The discovery was made on the Navan Road at about 8 a.m. by a passer-by. The body of the man, who had been sitting in the driver's seat and was the only occupant of the car, was taken by ambulance to Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Navan. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

In the North, Mr Edward Thomas McManus (20), of Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, was killed when he was struck by a car at 3.30 yesterday morning. The accident happened at Belturbet Road in the town. An investigation is under way.

At 6.15 p.m. on Saturday a 44-year-old man from Cloghy, Co Down, was killed when the car he was driving was in collision with a second vehicle on the Rubane Road near Kircubbin, Co Down.

A 38-year-old man was killed and two others injured in an accident in Co Tyrone, at 5.30 on Friday evening. The crash, which involved two cars and a lorry, happened on the main Dungannon-Ballygawley road, near the Killymaddy tourist amenity centre.
