The Chief-of-Staff, Lieut Gen David Stapleton, has announced the promotion of Col Frank McKevitt to brigadier general, and Lieut Col Pat Nash to colonel.

Brig Gen McKevitt is to be appointed Head of Military Staff of Irish delegations to the Partnership for Peace and Western European Union, based in Brussels. He has had a wide range of experience and postings, including appointments with the Military College in the 1970s, the 3rd Infantry Battalion in the 1980s and more recently in the Chief-of-Staff's Branch in Defence Forces Headquarters.

Brig Gen McKevitt was instrumental in ensuring the success of the recent Defence Forces deployments to Kosovo and East Timor. He has a wide range of overseas experience, having served in Cyprus, the Middle East, Lebanon, Central America and Iraq/Kuwait.

Col Nash is to take up his new appointment of director of administration in the Assistant Chief-of-Staff (Support) Branch based in Colaiste Caoimhin, Glasnevin, Dublin.

He has served in the Defence Forces for 36 years in a variety of units and appointments. He served more recently in the Chief-of-Staff's Branch of Defence Forces Headquarters and his most recent appointment has been in the Infantry School in the Military College, Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp. His overseas service included United Nations duty in Cyprus, Lebanon, and the former Yugoslavia.
