The former Irish soccer manager, Jack Charlton, will be prosecuted for fishing without a £1 rod licence, it was confirmed yesterday. The UK Environment Agency confirmed the case would go before magistrates at Hexham, Northumberland, on June 25th.
The maximum penalty is a fine of £2,500 and confiscation of the fishing tackle. Mr Charlton (60) said he would plead guilty by letter, adding he had since obtained a licence.
The case follows an incident on Easter Monday when the recently retired soccer manager was challenged by water bailiffs while fishing near his Northumberland home.
