Reigning champion John Higgins lost his title today after Peter Ebdon
beat him 6-3 in the quarter-final of the Irish Masters at the Citywest Hotel.
Ebdon, who came from behind to defeat Stephen Lee on Wednesday night, played impressively and gave his opponent little opportunity to shine.
Ebdon holds the highest break in this tournament - 124 - and has maintained that form today with steady break building in the opening exchanges.
Break of 63, 68 and 90 opened a 3-0 advantage for Ebdon after only 48 minutes. However, Higgins fought back in the fourth with a break of 66 to close the gap to 3-1 at the interval.
Higgins fought back with a couple half-century breaks to make it 4-3 but his opponent resumed his command at the table to win the next two frames and win a place in Saturday’s semi-final.
