The Irish currency became a collector's item today thanks to the Central Bank, which launched a limited series of collector packs to commemorate the one-pound note and one-pound coin.
The packs were designed by artist Mr Jim Fitzpatrick and contain the "Queen Maeve" one-pound note from the B series of banknotes issued from the late-70s until 1989 and the one-pound coin issued since 1990 and to be made obsolete in January 2002 with the onset of the Euro.
The limited collection numbers just 25,000, and are available at Central Bank headquarters.
