Belfast City Council is planning a carnival parade from City Hall to Custom House Square in the docklands. The parade with the theme “Legends, Myths and Stories”, will leave City Hall at noon.

The Beat Initiative, which is organising the carnival on behalf of Belfast City Council, has been working with community groups from across Belfast to create their own colourful carnival pieces.Groups will be joined by a host of carnival performers, carnival floats and musicians.

In Downpatrick, Co Down, reputed burial site of the patron saint, an eight-day celebration is under way. Today’s events include a ceremony involving local clergy at St Patrick’s grave at Downe cathedral and a traditional parade.
