Street Performance World Championship
The Street Performance World Championship, overall winner of the Culture Tourism category, is a festival of the world’s best acrobats, sword swallowers, contortionists, street magicians and comedians and takes place in Dublin and Cork over two weekends.
The brainchild of Mark Duckenfield and Conor McCarthy, the festival first took place in August 2006 and had an attendance of over 130,000 people last June.
Highly commended: Culture Night, Temple Bar Cultural Trust, Monster Truck Gallery and Studios and St Stephen’s Church.
BUSINESS IN THE COMMUNITY KPMG’s “Get Cents”
The KPMG “Get Cents” programme was developed in partnership with the North Wall Community Training Centre with the aim of enabling young people to manage their money more effectively. The programme, delivered over three modules, explores attitudes towards money and focuses on saving, personal budgeting and banking. To date 40 young people have completed the programme. Over 20 KPMG staff have been involved in the design and delivery.

DUBLIN CITY NEIGHBOURHOODS Walkinstown Association Garden Project
Formed in 2005, the Walkinstown Association Garden Project provides a free garden- maintenance service to older people and people with disabilities who can no longer maintain their own gardens. The service which is committed to building relationships and working with the local community, also provides work experience and training for the long-term unemployed and for people with disabilities who want to progress into paid employment. Members of the project receive horticulture training from a VEC tutor to produce 20,000 bedding plants annually, which are sold to Dublin City Council and other community projects.
