There were narrow victories for both Lansdowne and De La Salle Palmerstown in today’s trimmed down AIL programme. The only other result of the day saw Terenure secure a 16-6 win over Ballymena at the Lakelands.
With Munster in action against Harlequins at Thomond and Leinster waiting for the big freeze to thaw at Newcastle, only three AIL matches were played today. The outstanding fixtures are due to be played tomorrow.
And with none of the top five clubs in action, Co Carlow could have gone top had they beaten struggling DLSP. However, despite enjoying home advantage, the Division One newcomers squandered their opportunity, suffering a 15-16 defeat.
The result eases some of the pressure on DLSP, their third win of the season putting some breathing space between them and bottom placed Young Munster.
At Lansdowne Road, the hosts put a string of disappointing results behind them to overcome city rivals St Mary’s by just three points, Lansdowne running out 17-14 winners.
