The painting The Taking of Christ by the Italian master Caravaggio has been returned to public view at the National Gallery in Dublin.
The painting was removed last month after the discovery of an infestation by biscuit beetles on the back of the canvas.
The infestation was treated in the gallery's conservation department. The condition of the painting will be carefully monitored, according to the gallery. Art experts say it is not possible to place a value on The Taking of Christ as Caravaggios never turn up in auction rooms, but a figure of £26 million has been mentioned.
