A Tyrone motor dealer who supplied a Mercedes which had travelled over 200,000 miles more than was shown on the odometer has been fined £400.
Noel Fox, of Creenagh, Coalisland, who admitted the offence, was said to have two previous similar convictions.
A lawyer prosecuting for Trading Standards told Cookstown Magistrates Court yesterday that the Mercedes had been brought from England, where it had clocked up 257,000 miles. It was reregistered and taxed by Fox and supplied to another member of the motor trade, showing only 36,000 miles on the odometer.
Defence solicitor, Mrs Bernadette Kelly, said the offence had arisen as a result of carelessness on Fox's part and there was no question of him acting maliciously. She said that the money involved had been refunded to the parties concerned.
