A JUDGE has decided that a canteen worker was put under "impossible pressure" by her employers to meet the demands of staff in a clothing factory.
Judge Diarmuid Sheridan said in Dublin Circuit Civil Court yesterday that Mrs Catherine Boshel (65), of Plunkett Road, Finglas West, Dublin, had been left to run the canteen of Hanro Ireland Ltd at North Road, Finglas with minimum assistance.
Awarding her just over Pounds 16,000 damages for a broken arm she sustained after falling, the judge told her counsel, Mr Bernard Barton, his client had been completely overstretched. "She strikes me as a most obliging woman who was simply unable to provide breakfasts, make sandwiches, deal with the cash and maintain a proper cleaning system."
The judge was told a proper canteen cleaning operation could be carried out only every Friday evening at the factory.
