Revenue's customs service said the discovery of 24 kilos of herbal cannabis was made when officers examined the baggage of a passenger arriving on a flight from Johannesburg, South Africa.

The drugs were wrapped in 'Spiderman' and 'Hanna Montana' gift wrapping.

A 32-year-old man from the Netherlands was arrested and was handed over to gardai at Santry. He is due to appear in court tomorrow morning.

Revenue said this was the third significant seizure of herbal cannabis made by customs officers at Dublin Airport in the past week. The total value of drugs seized is €596,000.

On Tuesday March 3rd, 13.5kgs of herbal cannabis was found concealed in a false-bottomed suitcase. On Friday March 6th, a further 12Kgs was seized when officers discovered the drugs concealed in hollowed out reams of paper.

Drugs worth nearly €1.8 million have been seized and 12 related arrests have been made by customs officers at Dublin airport to date this year, Revenue said.
