LONDON - The Lords paid tribute to senior Tory Baroness Faithfull (85), a veteran campaigner for children, who died yesterday.
Lady Faithfull was a frequent critic of the government, particularly on social policy. She ended a career in children's care services as Oxford City Council's social services director in 1974 and was created a peer a year later.
Lady Faithfull was chairman of the all party Parliamentary Group for Children and of the Faithfull Foundation, fighting child sexual abuse.
Lord Elton said it was a "sad irony" that children should have been the victims of the atrocity at Dunblane on the day that she died.
