A campaign to minimise waste in Wexford will be launched on Sunday when adults and children will be able to learn about the environment and waste conservation.

Billboards for the campaign are on show around Wexford, reading: "So . . . you don't want landfills? You don't want incinerators? Can't be bothered to recycle? Is this what you want? Because this will happen." The accompanying cartoon shows a house with waste piled high outside.

The launch of the campaign by Wexford County Council, which aims to encourage people to minimise waste, takes place at the Ferrycarrig Hotel from 1 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Experts in the environment and waste management will explain facilities and techniques used in recycling, composting and protecting the environment.

Mr Gerry Foran of the Constructive Waste Co will show children how to make Hallowe'en masks from waste, while Ms Eanna Ni Lβmha of RT╔'s wildlife programme Mooney Goes Wild, will also speak.

If the weather is good, Ms Karin Dubsky of Coast Watch Ireland will show the children the marine life at a local river.

Mr David Daly will speak to children on worms and waste management. For adults there will be talks on recycling and information on where facilities are located. The Environmental Protection Agency's films on the Republic's environment, The State We're In, will be shown throughout the afternoon.

Small cotton carrier bags will be available free, and composting bins will be sold at a reduced price.

Other organisations represented on Sunday will include the Irish Seal Sanctuary, Irish Earthworm Co, and the Irish Women's Environmental Network.
