The Dublin Regional Authority has called on the Government to devolve more power to regional level, indicating dissatisfaction with its "largely passive" role, writes Frank McDonald. In a submission to Devolution Commission, which is currently finalising its report, the authority also recommended that the Government strengthen the regional authority structure in terms of funding and administration.
It said regional authorities, established in 1993, should have a clear role in their region's development strategy, including physical planning and economic development, and that statutory agencies should be required to conform with its objectives.
