Senator Joe O'Toole last night called for a change in the tax laws which allow some people to work here and yet avoid paying income tax. Addressing the Institute of Internal Auditors in Kilkenny, he said such people should "get out of the country and stay out if they were too mean to pay taxes on the same basis as others". People who leave the State can avoid having their time here count towards the 186-day residence limit below which they do not pay Irish income tax, the ICTU vice-president noted.
