Canon Donal McNamara made his comments as he addressed mourners at the funeral of Lee Slattery whose body was found in a shallow grave near Moyross on the outskirts of the city last Monday.

The 24-year-old father-of-one, who was from Ballynanty, died after he was shot a number of times last weekend. He was last seen alive shortly before midnight on May 27th and one line of enquiry being pursued by gardaí is that he was killed over a small drugs debt.

Hundreds of people, including Mayor of Limerick Cllr Kevin Kiely, attended yesterday’s funeral Mass which took place at St Munchin’s church in the city.
