The first lay canons in the Church of Ireland will be installed at St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, at 8 o'clock this evening by the primate, Dr Robin Eames.
The five new canons have been appointed following a decision by the 1993 General Synod to permit the Primate of all Ireland to appoint not more than six honorary lay canons to St Patrick's in Armagh "in recognition of particular and distinguished service to the Church of Ireland."
The new canons are Mr Robin Lewis-Crosby, Mr Godfrey G. Quayle, Dr Muriel McCarthy Mr J. L. Barry Deane and Mr W. Jack Dickson.
