PRICES OF many well-known local food and drink brands are being cut as part of a new promotion to encourage shoppers to buy Irish. Short-term discounts of up to 50 per cent as well as special offers are being offered on goods as part of the Love Irish Food campaign.
The food and drinks companies who are sponsoring the campaign say it has gained significant momentum, with a further 11 indigenous companies joining since it was launched three weeks ago. Forty-six leading Irish brands are now taking part in the campaign.
The offers include 50 per cent off Kilmeaden cheddar in Dunnes Stores and 33 per cent off Miwadi in Supervalu. New members include Bewleys, Butlers Chocolates and Granby Sausages. Existing members include Flahavans, Ballygowan, Cadbury and Avonmore. Jim Power, chairman of Love Irish Food, said the growth in membership was testament to the firm commitment from the food and drinks industry to creating a sustainable environment and future for the sector.
