A businessman charged with false imprisonment and possession of a firearm was granted bail in Dublin District Court yesterday.

The charges arise from a confrontation last week in which an INLA member, Mr Patrick Campbell, was killed.

Mr John Creed (30), of Kiltalown Green, Tallaght, was charged with false imprisonment of Mr Anthony Deegan and possession of a firearm at Ballymount Industrial Estate on October 6th last.

Det Insp Thomas Mulligan objected to bail for the defendant because he believed he would not turn up for trial. i went looking for him, he could not be found. He was eventually located. Last Thursday night he was charged. His solicitor, Mr John Feagheny, said his client had no warrants out for his arrest and was prepared to stay at his mother's home pending trial.

Judge David Anderson said there was no evidence that he would not turn up for trial and there was no basis for refusing bail.

He set bail on Mr Creed's own bond of £1,000 with an independent surety of £2,000 and remanded him to appear in Dublin District Court on Friday.
