Former US president George W. Bush plans to write a book about the personal and presidential decisions he has made during his time in office.
The book will be published in the autumn of next year, Tina Constable, a vice president of Crown Publishing Group, announced today. Crown is a subsidiary of Random House.
"My goal is to bring the reader inside the Oval Office for the most consequential moments of my personal and political life," Mr Bush said in a statement. "I look forward to painting a vivid picture of the information I had, the principles I followed, and the decisions I made."
The book, tentatively titled
Decision Points, will focus on such milestones in the president's life as his decision to seek the presidency, his selection of Dick Cheney as his vice president, his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina, and the invasion of Iraq, according to the announcement.
"President Bush is writing a different kind of book," said Jenny Frost, president and publisher of Crown Publishing. "He will tell the true story behind the tough decisions he made, based on the information and advice he had available at the time."
The arrangement was negotiated by lawyer Robert Barnett of Williams & Connolly LLP, who also handled book deals for President Barack Obama, former president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Random House also published Mr Obama's books,
Dreams from My Fatherand
The Audacity of Hope.
