London - British politicians attacked the green credentials of US President George W. Bush on Tuesday, calling him a polluter and a fool.
Fielding questions in parliament, the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr John Prescott, heard one Labour Party member label Bush the "toxic Texan" and was urged by another to make "the fool on Capitol Hill" mend his ways. Mr Prescott, normally a blunt speaker, would not be drawn.
Mr Bush has come under fire around the globe from environmentalists for withdrawing US support for the Kyoto global warming treaty, signed in 1997. Fresh inter-governmental talks are to be held in Bonn in July, but US officials said last week the Bush administration sees little chance of agreement on the treaty.
