Dublin Bus have agreed to re-instate all buses on its Tallaght routes following a meeting between the company, unions, Gardaí and local representatives. A full service, including nitelink, will be in operation by tomorrow night.

Management and unions at Dublin Bus decided to restrict services following a spate of recent attacks by youths in which 42 windows had been broken over the a five-day period. Mr Joe Collins, Manager, Media and Public Relations for Dublin Bus, said drivers had also been spat on and one driver had been punched in the face.

The meeting has called for the establishment of a forum to keep levels of vandalism under review; for Dublin Bus to install vandal-proof cameras on all buses driving the routes and for Gardaí to consult with South Dublin County Council on methods to deal with offenders.

The meeting has also requested that the new forum be met by the Minister for Justice.

Fine Gael TD for the area Mr Brian Hayes caused a controversy earlier today by suggesting the families of youths involved in the attacks should be evicted if housed by the Council.

But Labour's Dublin South West TD Mr Pat Rabbitte said Mr Hayes's proposal was "too simplistic".

Mr Collins said Dublin Bus "will be keeping the situation under constant review."
