A bus driven by a man accused of dangerous driving causing death was airborne at the time of the crash, Trim Circuit Court heard. Sorin Dinu (44), of Castlecurragh Heath, Mulhuddart, Dublin, has denied a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of Cathal O’Leary at Johnstown, Enfield, Co Meath, on February 23rd, 2009.

Mr O’Leary’s partner Liz Finn told the court she first thought the Bus Éireann coach might have clipped the tail of the car in front and advised Mr O’Leary to “mind the bus”. “I looked back again. The bus was not in front,” she said. It was now “coming through the air at us,” she told the court. “It was airborne . . . The bus impacted and the jeep rocked from side to side.”
