Gardai in Co Donegal confirmed yesterday that 600 rounds of ammunition in an arms find outside Letterkenny on Tuesday night were in a usable condition. The arms, hidden in plastic bags in a ditch at the side of the road at Crievesmith, included two magazines, two time-powered units, two lengths of fuse wire, a telescopic sight, a quantity of black powder and a quantity of mercury.
A Garda spokesman said they appeared to have been there for some time and apart from the ammunition, were in a very bad condition.
