London - Lawyers for the father of James Bulger, the toddler who was battered to death by two child killers in 1993, said yesterday he will try to challenge a court ruling that could allow the murderers to walk free within months.
Mr Robin Makin, the lawyer acting for James's father, Mr Ralph Bulger, said he was very unhappy about a High Court ruling to reduce the killers' sentence to eight years.
The judgment, by Lord Chief Justice Lord Woolf, could mean that Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, who were convicted of murdering the toddler when they were just 10 years old, would be released within months.
He was considering asking for a judicial review of Lord Woolf's ruling, and would also examine the possibility of asking Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, to consider an appeal.
