MR Liam Kelleher, director general of the Construction Industry Federation, has welcomed the 10 per cent increase in the Public Capital Programme and the 13 per cent rise in the PCP affecting the construction industry.

The increase recognised the investment needs of the Irish economy, particularly in the area of productive infrastructure given the strong economic growth of the last few years which is projected to continue in the medium term, he said.

The CIF also welcomed the establishment of two new third level educational institutes Dun Laoghaire RTC and Tipperary Rural and Business Development Institute.

The figures also highlighted the prospect of a significant reduction in farm investment with building related investment in the agricultural sector expected to decline by 14 per cent.
