British telecommunications operator BT said today its pretax profit in the second quarter was up 55 per cent from the same period a year ago.
Total profits reached £496 million sterling (€772.9 million).
Sales rose 2 per cent to £4.661 billion in the second quarter of the 2002/2003 fiscal year, the group said.
BT chief executive Mr Ben Verwaayen had set out the three-year revenue growth target earlier this year, though almost no one in the market believed it would be met.
