ONE part that we won't be able, to predict the tone of will take place in the faded grandeur of the Irish Club on London's Eaton Square on Tuesday night. The guest of honour will be writer Seamus Deane, who will be going there hotfoot from the Guild Hall where the Booker winner will be announced.
But will he be coming clutching the big cheque or desperately trying to be a good loser?
All the publishers in contention, plan such a post Booker party which, according to Deane's publishers Jonathan Cape, is to prevent the would be winners from slinking off to their hotel rooms in a haze of, misery. Invitees to Deane's bash include Martin Amis and Julian Barnes but guests should before warned that entertainment will be provided by a diddly eye band specially booked for the occasion.
