Two brothers appeared at Laganside magistrate's court in Belfast yesterday to face charges relating to the murder of kitchen porter David Cupples, who died on Christmas Day.
Mr William Hill (20), and unemployed, of Southport Court, Belfast, was accused of the murder in Belfast on December 22nd. The 25-year-old kitchen porter from east Belfast was attacked in Cliftonpark Avenue as he walked to work in Girdwood army barracks in the early hours. He died from his injuries three days later. Mr Edward Hill (18), and unemployed, and also from Southport Court, was accused yesterday of attempting to dispose of clothing with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of another person, believing him to be guilty of committing an arrestable offence.
The two men smiled and chatted to each other while the case was dealt with. Det Chief Insp Nigel Stockdale said he believed he could connect William Hill to the murder charge.
He was said to have replied "No, I do not", when charged at Antrim Road police station yesterday. Det Con Roy Stinson told the court that Edward Hill replied "no" when charged yesterday, but he believed he could connect him to the alleged offence.
Both men were remanded in custody to appear by video link again on February 3rd.
