Two men appeared at a special court in Lurgan RUC station in Co Armagh yesterday charged with making a threat to kill a man at Aghalee, Co Antrim, on September 28th.

They are Mr Clifford McKeown (37), a joiner, of Portadown, Co Armagh, and his brother, Mr Trevor McKeown (35), unemployed, of Coronation Gardens, Aghalee. They were further charged with damaging property belonging to the man, Mr James Deans.

An RUC detective said that, when charged, Mr Clifford McKeown replied "totally innocent" to both charges. Mr Trevor McKeown, in reply to the first charge, said: "The only person who issued the threat was himself against me and my brother, Clifford." In reply to the second charge, Mr Trevor McKeown said: "Not guilty."

Both defendants, who deny the charges, were remanded in custody to Lisburn Magistrate's Court on October 9th.
