AN 82-year-old brother with an address at the Brothers of Charity, Clarinbridge, Co Galway, has pleaded guilty to four counts of indecently assaulting males at the Brothers' institute for mentally handicapped boys at Lota in Cork.

With a slight shake in his hand James Redmond waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was released on his own bail of £1,000 and an independent surety of £1,000.

At Riverstown District Court Redmond admitted indecently assaulting four named males at the Brothers of Charity institute in Lota, Glanmire, Co Cork, at unknown dates between 1959 and 1961, 1962 and 1968, 1969 and 1973 and 1973 and 1979, contrary to Section 62 of the Offences Against the Persons Act, 1861.

He was returned to Cork Circuit Court in February.
