Two British women have been jailed for life in the United Arab Emirates for drug offences.
Anne Kidd and Anna Bartlett were among a group of people arrested in November.Daniel Maalouf from London has been sentenced to a 10-year jail term for intent to traffic drugs.Eight people were charged with a variety of drug-related offences ranging from trafficking, dealing, possession and use.Kidd is from Leeds and 22-year-old Bartlett is from Southend.Kidd, 32, was convicted of using and distributing drugs and Bartlett, also known as Hamilton, of using, trafficking and importing drugs into the Emirates. Both were ordered to pay 50,000 dirhams (£9,600).The cases against four other defendants - Britons Stacey Simpson, 25, also from Leeds and Katherine Jenkins, 29, an Emirates Airlines flight attendant from Cimla, Neath, South Wales; a Lebanese and an Australian - were transferred to Dubai.The five Britons had protested their innocence when the case was adjourned earlier this year for the panel of judges to reach their verdict.
